Friday Favorites......Beauty Tips and Favorite Looks

happy friday!
(actually, i thought it was Thursday when i woke up)
i was so convinced that when i saw "Friday" on the morning paper,
i thought they made a mistake!
duh......
i'm just a little freaked out cause
that means it's LESS than a week till Miss Taylor Ballerina
heads to Boston Ballet for 5 weeks.
YIKES!
i can't think about that right now.
because.......
i have to show you a few of my favorites!

beauty tips:
i love when i see something demonstrated so simply,
 like these eyes...

~simply natural eye shadow
light shadow on the lid, light/med brown in the crease,
touch of black eyeliner on top lid and smudged brown shadow liner lightly under the eye, followed by black mascara.
 talk about timeless.
(one make up artist says lining the top with black and the bottom with brown creates a soft, sexy eye.  so there you go:)

~this next eye is obviously more dramatic but the step by step photos are so clear,
no need for words:)

~layer your eyeliner
liquid eyeliners are popular,
but this pro says they are too hard for the average user to apply accurately.
ahem.....she must mean me:)
anyway, she suggests layering eyeliner to get a precise look and stay put wear.
start with an eye pencil and apply to eyelid.
then put liquid eyeliner on top, following the line you
already drew.
supposedly it's perfect and lasts!

~make-up brushes

according to total beauty,
we only need basic makeup brushes.
1.  Foundation Brush (?)
2.  Concealer Brush
3.  Fluffy Powder Brush
4.  Blush Brush
5.  Small Blending Brush
6.  Flat eye brush
7.  Precision angle brush
8.  Lip Brush
i guess you could say that means i don't need the other 10
 i must have floating around:)

~get rid of blemishes with vinegar?
that's what they say!
apparently you mix one part apple cider vinegar with
10 parts water.
put it in a clean glass container and after washing your face.
dab the solution on your blemishes with a cotton ball.
you can apply it several time/day without drying  out your skin.
vinegar helps adjust the PH balance in your skin, treating and preventing blemishes.
go figure!
worth a try:)

~toe nails
How to get white nails -- make a paste using 1 tbsp peroxide
and 2 1/4 tbsp baking soda.
Let this paste sit on your nails for 5 minutes and voila!
 White nails! Totally works!

moving on to my favorite looks.......
i love her hair.
so pretty!
the hair i would have if i could.
but mine is too short.
not straight at all.
and my husband would probably ask me what's wrong with my hair.
but i love it:)

~boho purse/handbag
by the way, which is it?  purse or handbag?)
i grew up calling it a purse.
my grandma called it a pocketbook.
and it seems most people i know down here call it a handbag.
whatever, i LOVE this boho/gypsyish
 purse/handbag/pocketbook!
can't you just see it with jeans, sandals and a white tank top?
(my favorite look:)
speaking of favorite looks,
i am such a casual person.
i would wear jeans everyday of the week.
(and pretty much do:)
so it's no surprise that these 4 looks have a pair of jeans.
starting with my favorite look right now.......
cute, cute, CUTE!

and what do i love about the second one?
jeans, of course.
paired with a dressy/glitzy tank top in cream.
all the gold (i'm into gold or rose gold these days)
basically just all the natural colors mixed with denim!

the one above is a great go to a movie or shopping outfit.
the jeans are the PERFECT shade of faded denim
and the natural tan sandals and purse are
perfectly.....NATURAL:)

this last one i must have "pinned" 10 times.
every time i see it i love it more!
if i can't wear cream/white with my denim,
give me soft grey!
but the shoes are not me.
cute, but not me:)

and LASTLY, the most perfect beauty tips of all time......

eye candy...

definition:   something that is INCREDIBLY pleasing to the eye.
something you just can't stop staring at.

now, i THINK the term "eye candy" came about to describe a VERY
attractive person...girl OR guy.
so for those of you who want THAT kind of eye candy,
i give you Mr. Phantom of the Opera himself...
Gerard Butler.

i know...SERIOUS eye candy:)

actually, i have a board on pinterest that is just for eye candy...
STUFF that is so amazing, so beautiful, I don't know where else to file it.
my vintage glam, shabby chic, dreamy creams and whites and stuff i love boards have
lots of eye candy too:)
so i thought i'd share some of my favorite eye candy with you.
ENJOY:)
(all photos with links can be found on my pinterest boards)

okay, okay...i'll settle for another puppy:)
talk about adorable eye candy!

shades of shabby chic...perfectly shabby eye candy:)

STUNNING!

 vintage jewelry

pretty and pastel...for spring!

LOVE the pillows!

more cake...
can you call this cake?  or are these works of art?
one thing for sure...they are EYE CANDY!!

and one of my favorite eye candy photos...of course...
those cheeks!:)

personally, i think even food is eye candy sometimes.
TOO MANY times:)
white chocolate lemon truffles.

White Chocolate Lemon Truffles

  • 1 cup white chocolate
  • 5 Tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 3 Tbsp. heavy cream
  • pinch salt
  • 1 tsp. lemon extract
  • icing sugar, for dusting
  1. Melt chocolate, butter and cream over a double boiler or in a microwave. Stir until smooth.
  2. Stir in salt and extract. Allow to cool slightly before covering with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 2 hours or until firm enough to handle.
  3. With a melon baller or small spoon scoop out mixture and form into 1 inch balls. Toss with icing sugar to coat.
  4. Store covered in the fridge for up to one week. Freeze for longer storage.
Makes: 24
* Using unsalted butter allows you to control the salty flavour of these truffles. The pinch of salt helps to cut through the sweetness of the white chocolate. If you decide to use salted butter make sure to omit the pinch of salt called for in the recipe or they will be far too salty.
* If you want to amp up the yellow color, stir in some yellow food coloring along with the extract and salt.

lastly, if you notice, i have a new "print this" button at the bottom of my posts.
just trying to make life easy for ya:)

so many cool things out there...

I just had to share some of my favorites with you!
and because I stockpile photos and ideas,
i have to cram in a ton in one blog post.
who knows when I might do another?  haha

usually I make you read to the end for a recipe...
but not today.
check out this Autumn Chopped Salad!

seriously, doesn't this picture make you want to just
SHOVEL it in???:)
here's the recipe...thanks to Espresso and Cream!
Autumn Chopped Salad
Ingredients
*6 to 8 cups chopped romaine lettuce
*2 medium pears, chopped
*1 cup dried cranberries
*1 cup chopped pecans
*8 slices thick-cut bacon, crisp-cooked and crumbled
*4 to 6 oz. feta cheese, crumbled
*Poppy seed Salad Dressing
*Balsamic Vinaigrette (I like Newman's Own Light Balsamic Vinaigrette)

Instructions
*On a large platter, combine the lettuce, pears, cranberries, pecans, bacon and feta cheese. Drizzle generously with poppy seed dressing, followed by some of the balsamic vinaigrette. (I would estimate  about a cup of dressing: 70 percent poppy seed dressing and 30 percent balsamic vinaigrette) If you prefer your salad to have more dressing, go for it.

now for some other cool things...
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the idea of old photos in mason jars!

and these chairs are SO cool...

i have plates similar to these in a creamy white...
now I think a set or a few pieces like this would be amazing!

and they would be so AMAZING with this silverware...

moving on...
this coat, with it's ADORABLE ruffles (love ruffles)
would be on my wish list for sure!

and this bracelet is such a sweet, SIMPLE way to carry your babies
with you at all times:)

so I think I'd like to do THIS...
strip hardwood floors and paint on them.
(but then my husband might go just a little bit CRAZY :)

I wonder what he'd think if I painted chalkboard paint on the wall...
and wrote quotes all over it.
COOL!!!!!

speaking of quotes...

and is this precious for a baby's room or what?

last but NOT least...
my early birthday gift to myself...
FAITH stackable rings:)

well, guess that's enough for one day.
I could TRULY go on and on...
but I won't.
so have a fabulous day!!!

5 Words...

Sometimes I have no idea what I want to blog about.

Sometimes I have way too many ideas swirling around in my head.

Either way, I usually just say forget it, maybe post a pic and get on with it.

But today, my friend Mollye reminded me about a fun blog meme called
"5 Words"

She gives us 5 words and we write what comes to mind with each word.

It's funny how sometimes we come up with similar thoughts and other times,
we all think of something different.

The 5 words are:
SKIN...BURGUNDY...CROSSROADS...FURRY...SANDWICH

Go ahead...visit Miz Mollye and tell her you're in.

You'll make a great friend in Mollye and have fun with the 5 words.

Okay, first up...

SKIN...
when I was growing up, sunscreen was a fairly new concept.
At least when I was a kid.
I literally remember when Coppertone was the only one.

And unfortunately, I remember when Hawaiian Tropic...with NO sunscreen,
just pure oil,
came on the market.
I loved it!!
The tan of the Islands...that's me!
An Island Girl living in Michigan.

Oh yes...
I was born to be a Hawaiian Tropic girl.
And my Grandma had fits about this.
Oh Grandma, not everyone has your lovely skin that tans to a beautiful brown.
Some of us have to burn and peel...
and burn and peel again...
to get a tan.

"I've never heard of skin cancer", I said.
And "what about all those people working in the fields in the old days?"

Well, I've heard of it now.
I will no doubt battle it down the road, sooner rather than later,
thanks to all of those years where I "burned and peeled" to get a tan.
Which is why my girls and I are friendly with dermatologists.
And self-tanners.
Just in case.
It is also why I sound like my Grandmother these days.
How on earth do I raise blonde girls in Florida???
By preaching sunscreen.
Since day 1...
they knew about sunscreen.

Today, I have a ballerina who hates to be tan.
Whew...
But I have a tennis player who loves to have golden skin
to go with that long blonde hair.
She's just like me...
only smarter:-)
Because we have a deal...
If she somehow manages to get a pretty golden color
while wearing a hat and her 50+ sunscreen,
I let her keep it.
My golden girl.

Burgundy...
Hmmm...tough one.
I guess I think of the color.
I like it...but i don't use it, don't wear it.
Taylor knitted a friend a beautiful burgundy scarf for Christmas.
It was gorgeous.
The color was so rich...
maybe I need to wear burgundy this Fall.

Crossroads...
def...a. A place where two or more roads meet.
My girls are at an age where there will be many crossroads.
And many forks in the road.
I hope when they stop at the Crossroads Cafe, they stop to think...
and pray...

and they choose the right road.
Because it is far too easy to get lost traveling along the wrong road.
And I hope they remember that all roads
...lead home!

FURRY...
Okay...did you honestly think I could write about "furry"...
and not write about my own furballs?
If so, you do not know me AT ALL:-)
Today, I want you to meet one of my guys...
the sweet, handsome goldendoodle named
Maui.
I know you want him but he's all mine! lol

SANDWICH...
Three letters...
PBJ
This is the BEST. SANDWICH. EVER!!!!!

And my mom made the best PB&J's ever!
Today I like strawberry and raspberry jam but back then...
grape jelly all the way.
And please cut the sandwich on the diagonal like my mom always did:-)
And make sure there is just enough jelly to make it ooze out a bit.

But mom...you were wrong about one thing.
Wonder bread IS better than the store brand.

Oh how I begged for Wonder bread.
My mom said it was too expensive and didn't taste any better.
But when I grew up and finally bought my own...it was so soft and...
WHITE!
Yes, I confess...
I love white bread.
Seriously, if you're honest, isn't soft, fresh white bread with PB & J the BEST???
I know we're not supposed to eat it and I don't...
but can't we get our whole grains somewhere else?
Just think...this generation is growing up with PBJ and whole grain bread.
Very sad... :-)

But Mom, you were right about one thing...
this stuff is not nearly as good as it looks.

Yes, it was a waste of money.
But I had to find that out for myself!

We don't eat many these days as Taylor is allergic to peanut butter.
She has literally saved me from one of the best treats ever...
grilled pb&j sandwiches.
If you've never had one...you are missing out!!!

Second favorite sandwich...
Fried Egg Sandwich.
And nobody makes these like my Dad.
When my mom wasn't home, we had fried egg sandwiches...
I think it was because this was all he knew how to cook at the time.
But it didn't matter because they are AMAZING.
I just know McDonalds got the idea for an egg mcmuffin from my dad.
But his is WAY better, trust me!

Guess that's it for the 5 word game.
Remember to stop by Mollye's to let her know you're playing along.

XOXOXO
Suzanne
